Cantilever Beam, Point Load

Input: Applied force and distance from wall.*
   P =   value of applied force (positive upward)
   a =  distance from wall to load

Output: Reaction force and moment at wall:
   R  =  force at wall (+ upward)
   M =  moment at wall (+ clockwise)
The maximum values of shear force and bending moment occur at the wall, x = 0.

  • Use consistent units: [pounds & inches], [pounds & feet], [newtons & meters], etc.
  • Do not mix inches and feet, meters and millimeters, inches and meters, etc.
  • Results are in terms of the units system you are using. If you enter the force in pounds and the distances in feet, the resulting forces are in pounds, and moments in pound-feet.
