Solution: From the Euler formula for buckling, the critical load for a pinned-pinned element is: Pcr = (p2EI) / (L2) For this case E = 3.1 GPa and L = 1 m The critical buckling load is then: Pcr = p2(3.1 GPa)(1024 mm4) / (1 m)2 = 3.17 N |
